1 ruined shirt = 2 pairs of cute underwear

Isabella ruined a shirt by getting some hard tar-like substance on it. Since I couldn't give the shirt away, I made a couple of pairs of underwear for her from the shirt. The pattern used is Jalie 2564, size 5. The elastic was attached flat, as opposed to in the round.

Happy Valentine's Day!

I stayed up late Thursday night to finish making matching dresses for the girls to wear to school on Friday, as they had Valentine's Day activities. Unfortunately, Isabella awoke with a cold and was too sick to go. She still wore her dress that day. Here are the girls Friday morning wearing their matching dresses. The dresses are from the pattern Farbenmix Olivia, sizes 5/6 and 9/10. The leggings are Jalie 2444, sizes 5 and 8.

I lined the dresses in plain white jersey because the heart fabric was extremely thin. I added 1 full inch in hem length so I could make a 1 inch hem. I find the wider the hem, the less likely it is to flip up. I also removed 1 inch from the sleeve length. I hemmed the sleeves a full inch, too. I added sew-in interfacing to the top shoulder seam to stabilize it. I top-stitched the neckline down to have added strength to hood/neck seam.

Happy Birthday, Isabella!

Thursday, my littlest one turned 5 years old! We had a party for her last weekend and because she has been woefully neglected in the party department, this one was a BIG one. Here are some pictures from the party.

Dare to dream?

Every year at this time, I start checking in on the conference standings. We were in Edmonton when the Oilers made their last run for the Cup and gosh, it was an exciting time. The city was a sea of car flags. It was such a wonderful sight and feeling, particularly for a newcomer like me.

So, every year, I keep hoping and I keep checking the standings. Sadly, the flags are still living in Joshua's room. They need some fresh air. Maybe this year the flags will once again fly on the van.

Goalie Katerina

Saturday's game was the first time Katerina played the goalie position. She had a practice on Wednesday, but otherwise she had no experience. She did pretty good. Their team lost 3-1, but Katerina stopped 6 breakaways. She was also playing opposite hand. The goalie gear is for a right-handed person. Katerina is a leftie.

Here are a couple of clips. The first is a few seconds and shows her stopping a shot. The second clip is a few minutes long. There is a good part at about the 48 second mark where Katerina stops a breakaway.

Isabella's Birthday Dress

Isabella will be turning 5 years old and she hasn't had a BIG birthday party before. This year, she will have a large party and I have made her a dress to wear. The dress pattern is Farbenmix Olivia, and it is size 5/6. I added some seam stabilizer on the shoulders, binding on the hood and pocket, and I layered the sleeves.
